Jewellery Inspired By The Landscape Of The Cuillin
Set in the heart of Skye against the backdrop of the jagged Cuillin mountains, ÒR shop was established by jewellery designer Jen Carter Pearson in 2016 first and foremost as a place for her own Isle of Skye jewellery. And ever since the opening of the first Portree shop -complete with wee workshop out the back- Jen has continued to produce contemporary jewellery with a twist on Skye’s wild landscape.
We’ve said before that the best way to experience Skye is hiking and it’s out in the craggy mountains of Skye where Jen finds her inspiration; natural textures and forms metamorphosising in her sketchbooks and, eventually, are hammered and etched out into elegant metalwork designs. The result is beautiful, wearable pieces of modern Skye jewellery.
As some new pieces have just dropped instore, we’ve put together a small edit of some of Jen’s necklaces, each re-imagining Skye’s brooding Cuillin mountains. And we’ve added a little sneak BTS into Jen’s workshop too.
All of these pieces would make perfect gifts or Skye keepsakes – and Christmas presents, of course. Come into either of our stores in Portree to have a look at the full collection.
ÒR Contemporary Skye Jewellery: Cuillin Edit
Cuillin etched
An elegant bar necklace etched lightly with the outline of the Cuillin mountain range, this is one of the finest pieces in Jen’s Skye jewellery collection. A subtle and stylish way to carry Skye with you wherever you go.
Available in: gold, silver and rose gold
Sgùrr nan Gillean hammered
This round pendant-style piece has been delicately hammered with an intricate conical mountain design that depicts Sgùrr nan Gillean, the 966m peak that is one of the most famous -and beautiful- on Skye.
You really must look at the pendant up close to see the detail: the rendering of rocky ridges and ruts is gorgeous.
Available in: gold, silver, and rose gold
Cuillin wire
A bolder, modern take on the Cuillin mountain piece, this circular open necklace is the largest of the three Skye jewellery pieces we’re featuring. Metal wire ghosts the undulations of the Cuillins, and is fused into a circular frame. This necklace feels like a completely fresh, contemporary type of Skye jewellery.
Available in: gold, silver and rose gold
