There are lots of ways to explore Skye but nothing tops actually getting in the sea, scaling sea cliffs or hiking up a Cuillin. We decided it was time to have ourselves a little fun so we teamed up with our friends at Skye Adventure for a day of coasteering and climbing! Skye Adventure are a small team who specialise in showing you the hidden gems of the island and then most likely asking you to jump off them.

If you fancy a proper exploration of the Island’s coastline and have barnacles on your briches and brine in your veins then coasteering is for you. Sarah from Skye Adventure expertly guided us around the ragged shoreline of Northern Skye, we jumped off sea stacks, navigated our way through unfathomably dark caves and got up close with sea urchins, anemones and jelly fish. You can go hard and jump off the highest of stacks or opt to simply float spectral and exquisite amongst the kelp, it’s absolutely your call. We cannot recommend coasteering highly enough, you get an unrivalled vantage point of the coastline and the beauty of the marine life and geology is heavenly.

After a morning of coasteering we headed down to the sea cliffs at Staffin bay - perfect for climbing novices who consider themselves more El napitan than El Capitan. The views down at the bay are incredible - with waves crashing on the rocks below and the wind whipping at us we scaled the cliffs with the unwavering encouragement of our guides. We felt an inordinate sense of gratitude on reaching the top and doubt we’ll be tackling the Inn Pin anytime soon but if that sort of thing is your bag then Skye Adventure are the people to go with.

Whatever your particular brand of adventure we are sure you will find it on Skye, just be sure to pack your thermals and your bravery, you'll need them both.
